An aerial view of Loch Leven
Enjoy British wildlife and find nature walks and wildlife events at Loch Leven National Nature Reserve.
Loch Leven is one of Scotland's premier National Nature Reserves, situated between Edinburgh and Perth in the old county of Kinross. This large, shallow freshwater loch is home to the largest concentration of breeding ducks in inland Europe. Throughout autumn and winter it is also a hotspot for wintering wildfowl, including many thousands of Pink-footed Geese, constituting up to 10% of the global population. It is for these reasons that it has been afforded the highest levels of designation. With the recent opening of the Heritage Trail around the loch, access has now been extended for the local community and visitors to enjoy what is a wildlife spectacle all year round.
